Submissions Guide for
self-Published Authors
Please email. We do not have the capacity to appraise your product on the shop floor during trading hours, and there may not always be a member of staff available that has the decision-making powers. Emailing allows for time to think about your proposal, and for us to treat it with the care and attention it deserves.
To help us make our decision, you should include the following information in your proposal:

-
A short, compelling synopsis of the book. If a book is on a topic that we feel will be of interest to our customers specifically, then that is a huge swaying factor for us.
-
Target age group, audience, and genre.
-
A Hi-res front cover/jacket image.
-
The book format/binding.
-
ISBN number.
-
A brief author/illustrator bio.
-
Retail price of the book and the trade discount price you are selling it to bookshops for.
-
Terms of business, including returns and payment information.
-
Distribution and printing information. Regarding supply channels, we would prefer your book to be distributed via national trade wholesalers, such as Gardners.
-
Outlines of your Marketing and Publicity plans. If you have a website and social media, include links.
At present, we are prioritising creators of children's books from under-represented groups, in line with our aims to highlight and promote titles that celebrate inclusivity.
Unfortunately, we are unlikely to stock your title if it is being published by or solely retailed on Amazon. We choose to have no commercial dealings with Amazon because of the negative impact they have on Britain’s high streets and their business model.
If we decline to stock your product, please do not be disheartened; it just might not be right for us at this time. Every high street bookshop is different, so it is worth trying another retailer. We cannot personally respond and give an explanation or feedback on our decision for every submission, thank you for your understanding.
Many thanks,
The Moon Lane Team.
