Independently Published Authors
Due to the huge time pressures of running an independent bookshop, we are unfortunately unable to enter into personal correspondence with individual, self-published authors. We have had to make this difficult decision as we are receiving 4 or 5 requests from self-published authors every day.
In order to support self-published authors we have set up a dedicated email address, email@example.com , which will be reviewed weekly depending on other shop demands.
We will be prioritising authors currently under represented in children's publishing, in line with our aims to highlight and promote books that celebrate diversity, including ethnic diversity, cultural diversity, gender, sexuality and disability. We aim to promote books that conceive strong women/girl characters, characters from diverse cultural heritages and main characters that challenge stereotypes, and form realistic representations of reality.
If you feel that you meet the above criteria then we would love to hear from you. We cannot guarantee that we will reply to every submission - if you do not hear from us please consider that your book has not been selected to be stocked in the shops. We are unable to give any further feedback, but can recommend John Appleton at Appleton Books and the Blue Elephant Story Shaping Service, who may be able to assist you.
